Trieste lies on the sun kissed south facing shores of the Golfo de Venezia with an extensive coastline of beautiful beaches along the Adriatic Sea, and a location practically on the Slovenian and Croatian borders.
A world away from the hubbub of Milan and offering an entirely different experience to Venice, Trieste is a unique city where you can genuinely get away from it all, and experience true Italian culture, while being able to explore other cultures in neighbouring countries within a short drive.
Trieste is a true gateway to this northern Adriatic Region, a justifiably popular place to come in order to see all that is best about spending time sightseeing. While it has plenty of attractions to offer, in and of itself, the main reason why Trieste is so fashionable with travellers at the moment is the fact that it offers the chance to see so many cultures so simply, and more importantly, cheaply. While Italy has a reputation for being pricey, cross the border into Croatia from Trieste, and you will find the same great beaches, and stunning scenery, and everything is just a fraction of the price you would pay.
With so much to see and do in the area around Trieste, not least the opportunity to drive along the coastal roads to Venice, hiring a car in Trieste is an integral part of a trip to the city, and something that every visitor should arrange in order to get as much as possible out of their visit.
